Saddling up for Synthesis
I’ve spent the last two years in the Army’s Command and General Staff College, and School of Advanced Military Studies. For those that follow Truth and Friction (thanks, Mom), you’ve probably noticed a lack of original posts over the past two years. My excuse: time. The required reading for these two schools has not been apologetically oriented in the slightest. C.S. Lewis has a quote on books by Christians, in which he says in essence that books about Christianity written by Christians are not likely to shake the atheist. However, reputable books on botany, chemistry, astronomy, physics, etc. that are written by Christians will shake him to the core. Along this line of thinking, my hope is that, as a Christian, my efforts and performance in my duties have an apologetic effect, even if not overtly presented as such.
However, now that my reading schedule is mine again, and I have a bit of time to write (now and then), it is time to begin to synthesize my learning over the past two years with my heart for apologetics. The two years has opened up some new lines of interest for me including just war theory, political theory, and military history. Oddly enough, as a military officer, military history has never been an interest for me until recently. All of these topics influence, and are influenced by, Christians and Christian reasoning. It is my desire to draw out those relationships.
We’ll see if the juice is worth the squeeze, because I’m likely to stray pretty far from common apologetical arguments and reasoning. I’ll let you be the judge. Either way…it’s good to be back on the blog.
To Christ be the glory…
